Duties
Preschool teachers are responsible for the instruction and supervision of students ages three to five in a fully inclusive classroom. The teacher plans and implements curriculum and instruction that address the developmental and learning needs of the whole child: cognitive, social, emotional, physical, linguistic, and preacademic. The teacher identifies the needs of students through continual assessment and writes instructional plans based upon individual student needs. They lead and collaborate with two classroom assistants to create a safe, warm, and engaging learning environment for all. In South Lane Preschool Promise, our mission is to lay a strong foundation of early learning so that all children thrive in kindergarten and beyond.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
A teacher in this position must:
- Be familiar with Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines
- Be knowledgeable about child development, developmentally appropriate practices, and play-based early learning pedagogy
- Be knowledgeable about early childhood assessment and applying assessment data to instruction
- Establish effective rapport and positive relationships with students and their families
- Have strong skills in classroom management and behavior management
- Collaborate with collective responsibility within a Professional Learning Community (PLC), and specifically with assigned Professional Learning Team (PLT)
- Collaborate with colleagues from within the district and from outside agencies to support students’ learning and development
- Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a team of classroom assistants
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have a current and appropriate Oregon Teaching License and be able to obtain a Step 8 or higher in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO) upon hire. Training and/or experience in early childhood education or child development strongly preferred. All candidates must have technology skills, collaboration and teaming skills, and be able to employ a variety of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies. Candidates who have an ESOL endorsement are preferred. Consideration will be given to teachers who are fluent in Spanish and/or teachers who are bi-cultural or multi-cultural.
Salary
Salary will be determined by the experience and degree level in accordance with the current salary schedule. The salary is determined using the 24-25 as SLEA is currently in negotiations with South Lane School District.
