What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor position at Harrison Family YMCA?
The Group Exercise Instructor will lead engaging, safe, and effective group fitness classes in various formats such as HIIT, Zumba, Spin, Les Mills, senior classes, abs, weight training, and more. Instructors will create a positive and motivating atmosphere, helping participants achieve their fitness goals. They will model healthy behaviors and encourage adherence to a fitness lifestyle, all while adhering to YMCA’s mission and values.

Responsibilities:Plan and teach safe and effective group exercise classes
- Enforce Wellness Center policies and class rules
- Create an inclusive environment where all participants feel welcome
- Ensure proper class setup and cleanup, including any necessary equipment
- Monitor participants during class to ensure proper form and prevent injury
- Encourage participant engagement and promote ongoing fitness goals
- Administer fitness assessments and track participant progress, when applicable
- Stay current on fitness trends and best practices, attending continuing education when necessary
- Be responsible for finding a qualified substitute for any class absences or canceling a session at least 24 hours in advance
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
- Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to and at least one year of experience developing positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
