Job Summary:
Assist the Principal in providing leadership and developing and monitoring practices, procedures, and policies for the attainment of school and student achievement goals. Duties include supporting curriculum alignment with content standards; evaluating and monitoring certified and educational support personnel; and supervising and encouraging appropriate student behavior, student success, and/or athletics/activities. Promote strong relations and partnerships among school, parents, students, community, and stakeholders. With the expansion of Career Readiness Academy to include middle school, the Assistant Principal will be primarily responsible for helping develop and lead the alternative middle school program. The Assistant Principal will facilitate the mental health and behavioral programming as well as lead a standards-based instructional program by responding to individual student readiness and interests. The Assistant Principal will oversee and coach staff in building a strong sense of community and belonging among the students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an alternative middle school program with a balance of mental health and behavior programming as well as a standards-based instructional program aligned to curriculum consisting of flexible programming approaches that are different that the traditional middle school model.
Evaluate, appraise, mentor, monitor, and provide feedback to staff to support planning, instruction, engagement, and assessment. Provide leadership for the professional growth of the staff through in-service programs, goal development and monitoring, and recommendation and support of educational/training opportunities to build capacity in the staff around student behavior, trauma-informed care and alternative school methodologies.
Develop and oversee the school approach to student behavior, to include restorative practices, neurosequential model of education, collaborative problem-solving, collaboration with mental health providers, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support as well as discipline that aligns with the District Code of Conduct.
Along with the Principal, collaborate with district departments and community partners to provide career connected learning experiences for students for post-secondary work readiness.
Analyze student achievement and engagement through data, make recommendations for maintenance and/or improvement, and communicate changes with stakeholders.
Respond to parent, student, stakeholder, and community concerns/questions and promote positive public relations. Encourage school/parent/student/community partnerships in providing for the educational needs of the student.
Ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff at all times, including overseeing the development and implementation of crisis prevention and procedures; collaborate with the principal in overseeing the physical plant and grounds; overseeing the planning and implementation of fire and disaster drills and other emergency procedures.
Actively participate in professional organizations, committees, and professional development opportunities.
Assist Principal with hiring certified and educational support personnel.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
Master’s degree plus additional coursework required for certification or licensure.
Valid Colorado Principal License.
Minimum four years of experience in teaching. Experience as a building leader preferred.
Advanced oral and written communication, English language, interpersonal relations, customer service, public relations, critical thinking, problem solving, organizational, and supervisory/management skills. Basic math and accounting skills.
Strong personal computer, keyboarding, and word processing skills.
Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of job.
Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.
Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, Superintendent, building, and department policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
