Job Summary:
Install, inspect, and maintain grounds and related equipment including backflow devices, irrigation systems, turf, landscaping, playgrounds, athletic equipment, and fences. Operate and maintain a wide variety of grounds equipment, including mowers, aerators, trenchers, street sanders, street sweepers, dump trucks, snow plows, tractors, skid loaders, and maintain certification of the backflow test device.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain turf and landscape maintenance equipment, including mowers, aerators, fertilizers and trenchers.
Conduct annual backflow testing and repair and report results to the City of Colorado Springs IAW City deadlines. Coordinate backflow device inspections by Colorado Springs Utilities. Maintain certification of the backflow test meter.
Install, maintain, repair, and operate sprinkler systems, including annual start-up and shut-down. Review irrigation plans for all remodel schools
Plan and perform turf and landscape fertilization, including the ordering of supplies.
Operate specialized equipment including skid loaders, tractors, front loaders, street sanders, street sweepers, dump trucks, snowplows and commercial trucks.
Perform safety inspections of playgrounds and athletic equipment, document deficiencies and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
Instruct and train Building Engineers, Custodians and summer hires in the methods and procedures used in operating, transporting and maintaining grounds, equipment, and facilities.
Install, repair, and maintain signs, gates, fences, fabrication, and welding.
Plan, organize and perform installation and maintenance of playground equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent, plus specialized courses in irrigation systems and turf and landscaping maintenance.
Over two and up to three years of experience in grounds maintenance.
Basic math, writing, and communication skills.
Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and practices used in the maintenance of grounds, including irrigation systems, turf, landscaping, and playground equipment.
Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and various other types of equipment.
Ability to operate standard transmissions required at hire.
Ability to operate skid loaders, commercial lawn mowers, forklifts, and tractors preferred at hire.
Valid Colorado driver’s license required at hire.
Commercial driver’s license preferred.
Backflow tester certification required.
Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
