Job Summary:
Develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture. Teach techniques of vocal or instrumental music expression. Discover and develop talents of students in the field of music. Develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music. Capable of attending to the duties of the position assigned for the duration of the assignment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony and explorations in music and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to students. Utilize course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances.
Control the storage and use of school-owned property. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical programs for school and community.
Select and requisition books, musical instruments and instructional aids. Maintain inventory records.
Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
Cooperate with the school administration to provide musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies and civic functions.
Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Participate in staff committees and sponsorship of student activities.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/administrator.
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Special experience and training as determined by content area.
Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations:
Valid Colorado Teaching License with K-12 Music endorsement.
Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
