Job Summary:
As part of the School Leadership Department, the Instructional Coordinator will work under the direction and supervision of the School Leadership Officer. The Instructional Coordinator is responsible for facilitating quality instruction in the elementary classrooms across the District. The Instructional Coordinator ensures that instruction is based on clearly defined standards and best practices that support increased student achievement. This individual is responsible for providing professional development and on-going support for the effective use of instructional strategies that best support implementation of the education programs. The Instructional Coordinator is part of a team of leaders responsible for creating the conditions under which improvement of quality classroom instruction leads to increased student achievement across the District.
Essential Duties, and Responsibilities:
Work in conjunction with the School Leadership Officer to monitor the quality of instruction in schools across the district.
Develop and implement plans to support the effective implementation of the curriculum and facilitate the alignment of teaching practices with instructional supports and resources.
Provide professional development opportunities to support the effective implementation of District Initiatives and key instructional priorities. Facilitate designated committees for special purposes and courses of action.
Support the implementation of a Response to Intervention model across the District in conjunction with other members of the School Leadership Department.
Support the Curriculum Department in the curriculum adoption process in identified subject areas.
Support and coach teachers in the effective implementation of the Professional Learning Community model.
Support and coach teachers on instruction as requested by School Leadership Officers and School Building Administrators.
Collaborate with the Curriculum & Assessment team to develop consistency and alignment on district-wide curriculum, instruction, and assessment initiatives.
Assist in the planning of the New Staff Summer Institute and Extended Learning Opportunities.
Guide staff in the use and interpretation of formative and summative assessments.
Provide knowledge and guide teachers in the use of appropriate standards, content, materials, and resources.
Collaborate with teachers to assure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of instructional programs throughout the school.
Facilitate the use of research-based instructional strategies and best practices to address the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of students.
Provide leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, and mentoring to support the improvement of the instructional program.
Organize and facilitate ongoing staff development.
Demonstrate appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction.
Review and analyze school-wide data and assist the School Leadership Officer and teachers in its interpretation to measure and improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness.
Observe work of teaching staff in order to identify strengths/areas of improvement and to recommend changes that could strengthen teaching skills.
Conduct or participate in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor Degree Required; Master's Degree preferred.
Five or more years successful teaching at the elementary school level. Knowledge of K-5 Math Instruction. Knowledge of mathematical practices and the impact on instructional planning.
Demonstrated leadership experience in instruction and professional development.
Applicants must have experience in effecting positive change in an elementary or secondary education setting.
Qualified applicants must have demonstrated leadership with effective instructional strategies and knowledge of curriculum and assessment alignment.
Expertise must include a working knowledge of instructional best practices and experience with the professional learning communities model.
Candidates must be accomplished in providing professional development and instructional coaching resulting in improvement of the quality of instruction delivered in the classroom.
