TITLE: TEACHER
DESCRIPTION: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or CE, as set by NJ state Certification Authorities. Bachelor’s degree. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. Proof of NJ residency, as required by statute.
REPORTS TO: Principal or appropriate administrator
SUPERVISES: Students, teacher aides, and volunteers
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of behavior and procedure for the teacher’s specific area of responsibility. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, unit, projects, and the like. Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. Acknowledge and respect individual differences of each child and provide the child with educational experiences accordingly. Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of administrators and district specialist as required. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports, as required. Supervise behavior in the hallways, on school grounds, and in the immediate school area for the safety and well being of all concerned. Foster sound relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers, non-teaching personnel, and administration through established channels of communication. Implement Professional Improvement Plans as written into the observation and/or evaluation reports. Participate in those activities that promote professional growth. Perform additional or alternative duties, which are within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned by his/her superior under authority of the Board of Education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Principal, consistent with Achieve New Jersey standards.
