What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shaft Mechanic - WIPP position at Harrison Western?
Harrison Western was founded in 1968 and has provided superior design and construction services to the mining and civil industries for over 50 years. We have entered a Joint Venture with Shaft Sinkers to construct a new utility shaft at WIPP (Waste isolation Pilot Plant). WIPP is a Department of Energy facility located near Carlsbad, New Mexico. When the project is completed, the final shaft will measure 26 feet in diameter and extend to 2,275 feet below the surface.
We are looking for experienced Shaft Mechanics.
The WIPP project is expected to take up to three years to complete. Open positions will be based on the operational need and may be months to years in duration. All positions are located at the WIPP site, 26 miles southeast of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Take direction from the Master Mechanic
- Fix, maintain and inspect Shaft Jumbo, Front end loader, Man lifts, Scoops, Hoists, sheave wheels, hoist/Galloway/cryderman ropes
- Must be willing to work on the Galloway when needed
- Must be willing to climb the headframe daily
- Follows established procedures in shutting down and disassembling equipment, replacing damaged or worn parts and reassembling equipment Inspects, lubricates, adjusts and reports any condition that may cause premature breakdowns
- Repairs and maintains all equipment in accordance with the preventative maintenance program
- Ensure all required logbooks are maintained and updated. Submits oral and written reports relevant to job duties
Skills and Specifications:
- Ability to take direction from supervision
- Recognize hazards and safety risks
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Familiar with equipment and tools required for the position
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Work in a standing, seated, or other physical positions
- Troubleshooting electrical DC voltage a plus
- Welding and fabrication of steel a plus
- Shaft experience a plus
- Must have own tools
Competitive compensation to commensurate with experience and daily per diem of $150.
