POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages daily operations of school kitchen and cafeteria and provides direct supervision to kitchen staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma or G. E. D. equivalency.

Have successful occupational experience(s) in food production and related use of institutional equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of accounting procedures, record keeping, procedures for food ordering, and computer/software applications.
Have the ability to work cooperatively with students, employees, school staff, administrators, and supervisor. - Ability to communicate information effectively to a workforce with diverse learning needs.
- Effectively demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions.
- Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises, trains, and assists employees in food preparation, serving, and sanitation.
- Plans work schedules for all employees and delegate duties in the kitchen.
- Understands the nutritional and operational requirements for student meals under the National School Lunch, Breakfast, Snack, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable and Summer Food Service Programs.
- Prepares and maintains accurate financial records and deposit information.
- Follows standardized recipes and instructions in preparing and serving food.
- Determines amounts of food and supplies to be purchased and check deliveries for accuracy.
- Instructs all employees in the use and care of equipment.
- Maintains high sanitary and safety standards in the preparation, serving, and storing of food following health department and HACCP requirements.
- Encourages each employee to observe high standards of grooming and work habits as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintains the necessary records required for an effective operation including daily records of meals served, deposits, inventories of food and supplies, production records, and any other required forms.
- Evaluates School Nutrition Program Assistants in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Projects a positive and on-going enthusiasm for the school meal program.
- Works with director and staff to develop promotional activities to market the school meal program and proper nutrition to students and staff.
- Attends educational and in-service training programs and meetings as requested by the manager and/or director.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
- Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
- Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
- Effectively performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Light work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
