Job Title: Assistant Step Coach – Skyline Middle School

Step Team (Coed):” SKMS STEPPAS”
Students will aim to engage and create and perform unique dances. Stepping is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken works, and hand claps. Students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th try out at the beginning of the year. Step team members are chosen during tryouts. The team practices and performs throughout the year.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes/performers so that they might achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in stepping. The position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student-athletes/ performers in meeting strategies and techniques.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties of this position include the following: Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attends practice and step performance events regularly and is punctual.
- Plans and sets-up activities, practices, and dance choreography.
- Develops appropriate training techniques for practice schedules.
- Assesses students’ skills, monitors students during competition and practice and keeps the head coach informed of students' athletic performance.
- Assists the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the dance.
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict professionally.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students, parents, community, staff, and the media
- Chaperone/supervise athletes. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES All school employees have some responsibility for managing students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
- Participates in special activities including parent meetings and banquets.
- Assists the head coach with administrative duties and will be required to follow any other instructions and perform any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Principal or appropriate administrator.
