What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Counselor - The Alternative Program at The Wilder School position at Hartford School District?
The Classroom Counselor will provide direct clinical services to children with emotional disturbance who attend the Alternative Program at The Wilder School (TWS). Clinical services will be provided within the classroom milieu. This position will work in partnership with educators and other counselors/clinicians to implement educational and therapeutic interventions with the students. Ongoing training and supervision will be provided by the TWS Clinical Director, TWS Principal, and the Program Coordinator for the Alternative Program at The Wilder School.
The Alternative Program at The Wilder School is an educational therapeutic program serving students, grades K through 8, from the Hartford Area Regional Collaborative member schools. Students with severe behavioral disabilities are referred to The Alternative Program at The Wilder School by the member supervisory unions.
The goal of The Alternative Program at The Wilder School is to collaborate with the student and the family to meet each student's academic, social and emotional needs. Intensive and comprehensive education and mental health services are provided using a family centered approach. Services are highly individualized and include active parents and school partnerships. The program seeks to assist students in acquiring the skills necessary to form and maintain relationships and to be successful in a school setting.
