What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Music Teacher position at Hartford School District?
The Ottauquechee School seeks a dynamic and dedicated elementary music teacher for a half-time position. (Interested and qualified candidates may have the option to combine with another school or district role for a full-time position.) The Ottauquechee School is a PreK-5 school with an enrollment of just over 200 students and a highly collaborative culture. We believe that all students can achieve more than they imagine possible across the dimensions of skills and knowledge, character, and high-quality work, and we support all students to become their own authentic versions of effective learners and ethical people who contribute to a better world. In order to build a sense of belonging for all learners, we center the use of equity-centered, culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices. Our teachers infuse inquiry into all disciplines, build scholars’ capacity for higher order thinking, prioritize student-engaged assessment, use data to inform instruction, and above all, model and foster a growth mindset.
The purpose of this position is to provide our students with a robust preparation in music fundamentals, both choral and instrumental, following the National Core Arts Standards. We see these disciplines as valuable in their own right, as avenues for creativity, expression and connection, and as opportunities to extend social-emotional skills and develop self-confidence.
The ideal candidate will have exemplary student-centered classroom management skills, a strong and reflective teaching practice, and a commitment to collaboration with diverse colleagues. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success using a range of engagement strategies to reach all learners. In addition, the successful candidate will need to have the ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to build upon our existing program and nurture it to become a lasting and meaningful part of the learning experience here at Hartford. Additional experience leading band and chorus is preferred. Our school concerts and performances are the pride of the community, thus experience and skill in production is required.
Our schools, in alignment with Hartford School District’s Anti-Racism policy, believe that the educational experience of every student is enhanced through the professional contributions of representatives of various races, ethnicities, genders, physical abilities, ages and sexual orientations, and that a diverse and culturally competent faculty is essential in the creation of a rigorous learning environment free of bias and inequities.
