What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science Teacher Grades 6-8 position at Hartford School District?
Hartford Memorial Middle School is a grade 6-8 school of approximately 300 students dedicated to the development of the whole child. We are an inclusive, energetic, and creative community that is dedicated to academic and personal growth. Successful candidates for this position must be committed to, and enthusiastic about, empowering middle school learners to play an active role in their education and their school. HMMS seeks teachers who thoroughly enjoy and are committed to middle level learners and prioritize relationships with students, families, and staff.
Teachers value close collaboration to create a supportive and authentic learning environment for our learners which includes recognizing inequities and responding to them effectively, interrupting and dismantling power and privilege inequities, and engaging with students and families in ways that do not replicate societal injustices. The successful applicant will be creative, open-minded, and excited about the unique opportunities that our middle school offers. The successful candidate must be a team player who is ready to think outside the box to meet the unique developmental needs of middle-level learners. This position is for a science teacher licensed to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science on a four person team with approximately 65 students.
The successful applicant will: Hold a Vermont middle level science certification (4-19c), or be willing to add the endorsement. Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in science curriculum, instruction, and assessment;Demonstrate strong understanding of middle level learners and the nature and needs of young adolescents;Demonstrate understanding of Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards; Be open to or have experience with collaborating with team colleagues to create a dynamic learning environment for students across content areas.
