THE DEPARTMENTThe Construction Management and Architecture (CMA) program at Hartnell College offers a dynamic curriculum covering fundamental construction skills, sustainable design principles, and advanced project management techniques. Students gain hands-on experience in various construction trades and learn to interpret construction plans while mastering computer-aided design tools. Our flexible programs cater to diverse career goals, whether students seek immediate employment, career advancement, or transfer to a four-year institution.
THE POSITIONUnder the general direction of the area dean or appropriate administrator, the selected candidate will primarily teach Construction Management and Architecture (CMA) courses and will teach other classes as needed. The assignment may include teaching at any of the college's campus sites in the day, evening, or weekend as well as distance learning courses.This position is expected to teach in-person classes at Hartnell College's main campus in Salinas and other centers. Teaching assignments may also include online classes.
Examples of Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct lecture and lab courses as assigned, including collaborative and team teaching;
Coordinate, plan, prepare, present, evaluate, and deliver classroom instruction and related activities, including developing and revising curriculum; using computer and advanced technologies in instruction; and maintaining currency in the field;
Offer student advising and assistance;
Assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussion;
Develop and file appropriate syllabi for each course taught, ensuring that each syllabus conforms to required and approved curriculum, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and reflects currency in the field;
Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment, to the dean;
Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt evaluation and grading of papers and other work;
Maintain and report accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records;
Participate in program and curriculum review and development;
Develop and assess student learning and program-level outcomes;
Utilize the results of student learning outcomes assessment to make improvements in teaching and learning;
Post and maintain office hours for student consultations;
Participate in student recruitment and articulation programs;
Participate in faculty recruitment and peer evaluation;
Collegially participate in department, college, and discipline-specific activities;
Participate in assignments and activities that support accreditation, institutional planning, and institutional effectiveness;
Participate in college governance, including serving on various committees;
Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations;
Engages in professional development activities that lead to continuous quality improvement of one's knowledge, skills, and abilities as it pertains to effective performance of the job functions.
Supports partnerships and collaborative projects with 4-year institutions and industry employers to support student access to internships, summer bridge activities, and career exploration opportunities.
Attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the dean, vice president, superintendent/president, or designee.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a depth of knowledge in the discipline and broad preparation for teaching in the discipline. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities;
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Ability to enthusiastically maintain subject matter currency;
• Ability to develop Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and to determine their effectiveness in helping students achieve their desired learning outcomes;
• Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of instruction and willingness to explore new technologies for instruction and learning; Knowledge of institutional accreditation, planning, and continuous quality improvement.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the California Community College mission;
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community-at-large.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree AND two years of professional experience*
OR An Associate degree AND six years of professional experience*.
*The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT;Full-time, tenure-track, Construction Management Architecture (CMA) faculty position.The starting faculty salary range is $70,608.00 to $149,154.00 annually based on 175 days per academic year. The successful candidate's starting salary will be based on verified education and teaching experience.The district provides health benefits, which currently consist of full coverage for medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and a high percentage of coverage for eligible dependents. The employee assistance program provides basic life insurance for employees only. STRS (state teacher retirement system).

Note: Transcripts for degrees earned outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation from an approved NACES service verifying that the degree is equivalent to the U.S. degree. Hiring & Selection ProcessA select group of candidates will be invited to participate in the first round of interviews, which will take place on the Hartnell College campus in Salinas, CA. The first round will involve a panel interview with faculty, staff, and the Dean. During this round, candidates will be asked to deliver a teaching demonstration on a topic that will be provided upon receipt of the interview invitation. Additionally, candidates will respond to a series of scripted questions. These questions will be made available for review 30 minutes before the interview. We anticipate conducting the first-round interviews during the first three weeks of April 2025.Candidates selected for the second round of interviews will meet with the college president and vice president. This round may also include a 50-minute teaching demonstration delivered to a group of Hartnell College students. The second-round interviews are expected to occur in the last week of April or early May.The final decision regarding the outcome of the interview process will be made in mid-May.
