Veterinary Technician Student or Experienced Veterinary Assistant

As a valued member of our team you will get to experience a wide range of patients and medicine. A typical day at the clinic includes small animal surgery, small animal wellness appointments, small animal sick appointments, farm animal wellness appointments, farm animal sick appointments, and urgent and emergency appointments for both small and large animals. We also regularly perform surgery on pigs and goats in clinic and occasionally see some exotics.

We are looking for a person who is passionate about animal medicine and caring for animals as well as their owners. We are seeking to hire a full-time Veterinary Technician student or Experienced Veterinary Assistant who is available all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (7:50am-~6:00pm), and every other Saturday morning (8:15am- ~1:00pm).

Veterinary Technician’s Regular Duties

• Blood draws
• Placing IV catheters * RVT or RVT Students only
• Performing urinalysis, fecals, ear cytology, skin cytology and other in house laboratory
• Properly preparing laboratory samples
• Taking radiographs
• Checking in patients and discharging patients from surgery or hospitalization
• Maintaining patient records using computerized medical records
• Administering medications as directed by veterinarian
• Taking patient vitals
• Answering phones
• Filling medications
• Performing dental procedures *RVT or RVT Students
• Administering and monitoring anesthesia *RVT or RVT Students
• Animal restraint
• Answering client questions
• Other duties as assigned

Important Skills and Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (required)
• Current RVT certification (preferred)
• One year of previous tech experience (preferred)
• Previous experience with the use and monitoring of anesthetics (preferred)
• Previous experience with performing dental procedures (preferred)
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Basic knowledge of computer systems—knowledge of Vetter software is a plus!
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and stand for a full 8 hours;
• Ability to work and be on time for assigned shifts
• Ability to work as a team

Benefits

Hartschuh Veterinary Services offers 5 days of paid vacation for full-time employees and 3 days of paid sick time for all employees, both available after 6 months of employment on an annual basis. Routine veterinary care is provided at cost for those pets that live with our employees.
