Key Responsibilities
Engineering technician (ET) supports new product development and production support efforts through laboratory test activities. Position will require involvement with designers and engineers early in the design and support process for coordination of test requirements. ET will primarily work in the engineering lab and will be responsible for its maintenance and insuring that consumable materials are replenished. Effective written and verbal communications are a must. This position demands strong technical skills and will require attention to details, ability to follow procedures, ability to work without direct supervision, a willingness to accept tasks and see them through to a successful completion. Candidate must be a team player and must have a high degree of professionalism and be self-motivated. ET will fabricate test apparatus, perform environmental and performance tests, work with technical drawings and specifications, and operate various types of laboratory test equipment. ET reports to Director of Engineering, but will work with the Senior Engineering Technician.
Key Expected Deliverables from the Position
1. Support plant operations and customers by providing testing support in collaboration with product engineers and senior engineering technician to resolve product related issues and develop new designs/products.
First Year Success Factors
1. Become intimately familiar with the engineering lab and all testing equipment.
2. Become familiar with lab processes and procedures.
3. Successfully support with and without supervision multiple test requests to completion.
Candidate’s Typical Job Duties
1. Maintain engineering lab and all lab equipment
2. Performing engineering tests
3. Fabricate test fixtures
4. Assembly of mechanical test hardware
5. Assembly of electronic test hardware
6. Troubleshooting mechanical hardware
7. Maintain laboratory consumable materials inventory
Requirements
Two year technical degree in related field or equivalent
Technical Competencies
1. 3 years minimum experience in operation of mechanical fab shop equipment, i.e. lathe, mill, band saw, grinders, etc.
2. Experience in fabrication of mechanical systems
3. Ability to read both mechanical and electrical/electronic technical drawings and specifications
Preferred
1. 3 years minimum experience working in engineering laboratory environment
2. Experience with DC machines and electromagnetic devices
3. Experience with mechanical stress/strain and vibratory test methods
4. Ability to read electrical schematics and work with electrical test equipment in troubleshooting
