Job Title:

Extended School Year Educational Support Personnel - Associate


Job Summary:

The Extended School Year Educational Support Personnel—Associate assists teachers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); also assists students with IEPs in general education classrooms with the goal of helping them reach their educational goals. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, the Associate may provide a variety of support and assistance and should be flexible in adjusting to student needs.


Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

60 College Credit Hours and/or Passed ETS Paraprofessional Test


Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on employee Evaluation.

Summer School Principal


Terms of Employment:

This is a part-time, hourly position for four weeks, from June 2nd to June 26th, with an additional four days of planning and professional development to be determined.


  • Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday
  • Compensation: $16.76 minimum per hour
  • This position does not include benefits

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement Educational Interventions – Deliver individualized and group interventions to help students achieve academic, behavioral, life skills, and emotional goals as directed by Special Education teachers.
  • Support Student Learning – Assist teachers in facilitating classroom activities and minimizing disruptions to promote a productive learning environment.
  • Attend to Physical Needs – Support students with mobility, personal care, and other physical needs throughout the school day.
  • Assist with IEP Implementation – Aid students with IEPs in completing assignments providing necessary accommodations and modifications.
  • Provide Small Group and One-on-One Instruction – Support small group or individualized instruction as directed by the teacher to reinforce learning.
  • Manage Student Behavior – Implement behavior management strategies, document incidents, and use de-escalation techniques to help students manage non-compliance or crises.
  • Implement Behavior Plans – Assist in executing behavior plans to encourage positive behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Communicate Effectively – Maintain communication with staff, students, and parents regarding student progress, needs, and concerns.
    Prepare Classroom Materials – Assist in preparing and organizing materials for classroom activities, including duplication and laminating.
  • Supervise and Support Students—Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and bus duty, ensuring their safety and appropriate behavior in non-classroom settings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children with special needs
  • Ability to provide behavior management and crisis intervention
  • Ability to work as a team member providing services to children with special needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of an Extended School Year Classroom Associate include the ability to remain active and mobile throughout the school day. The role requires frequent standing, sitting, and walking within the classroom and school environment to assist students with learning and personal needs. The position may involve bending, kneeling, and lifting, especially when assisting students with mobility or personal care needs. The associate must be able to physically support students during activities, including providing assistance with transitions between settings and helping with basic tasks. The position also requires handling classroom materials and supplies, which may involve lifting light and organizing resources. The ability to move quickly and respond to students' needs in various situations, such as recess or lunch, is also essential. Clear communication is needed, and the role may involve speaking loudly enough to be heard in noisy environments or providing non-verbal support during physical activities. This position requires flexibility and stamina to manage the various physical tasks and responsibilities that arise throughout the day.
