Job Summary:
The Instructional Coach plays a critical role in improving student achievement. The coach's role is to build teacher capacity and understanding of instructional practices related to Common Core and Data-Driven Instruction. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement and lifelong learning and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team. Instructional coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and common issues of concern for individual teachers and Professional Learning Communities.
Coaches are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching,g and providing teacher feedback. The Instructional Coach will provide personalized, 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers or groups of teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for education reform and leadership.
Qualifications:
Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligible for an appropriate license
ESL endorsement
Five (5) years of experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and differentiating curriculum

This job's performance will be evaluated per provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:
This is a 9-month position—salary and benefits established by the Board of Education. The position retains the Harvard Education Association membership and is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the Strategic Goals of Harvard CUSD 50.
- Facilitates teachers' intellectual and professional development with a focus on improving student achievement through differentiation of instruction.
- Cultivates positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
- Communicates and demonstrates research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
- Provides individualized, classroom-based coaching with participants to support them in implementing good instructional practices.
- Provides support through a coaching cycle with individual staff members - establish a goal and a plan to ensure student outcome improvement.
- Supports the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the CCSS curriculum and varied assessments, the CUSD 50 Instructional Framework, and data analysis.
- Builds strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
- Provides direction for how the curriculum is taught consistently with district initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
- Provides support to PLCs within buildings.
- Assists teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
- Develops staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through various professional development targeted topics and designs.
- Contributes to developing systems and structures to improve differentiation practice within schools.
- Provides job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
- Submits a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
- Provides or models organized, individual, and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
- Provides support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
- Encourages ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
- Manages time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
- Works positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
- Assists with the development of district curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
- Demonstrates the ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team.
- Demonstrates interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection.
- Provides professional development for staff during and after school hours.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.

- Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers
- Proven ability in using formative assessment and student-level data to guide instructional decisions
- Demonstrated knowledge of Common Core Standards
- Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations

Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Repetitive bending at the waist and kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students are also required. Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
