The Slitter Operator position assures efficient, safe, and effective operation of the slitter machine. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Set up and operate slitter with maximum attention to safety and accuracy
- Check cutting head setup for accuracy
- Load master coils onto uncoiler
- Thread steel coils through slitting line
- Operate slitter from the control panel
- Process coils per order instructions
- Troubleshoot issues and work to resolve matters quickly and safely
- Ensure product identification
- Raise issues to leadership as needed for resolution, including any issues with material, quality, machine operations, packaging, and other issues
- Complete all associated paperwork thoroughly and accurately
- Operate an overhead crane to safely move material through facility
- Assist where needed with other responsibilities when not busy with slitter operation
- Maintain proper housekeeping of work area
- Work collaboratively with other team members and provide direction as needed for safe and efficient teamwork
- Communicate effectively
- Ensure all work is performed safely
- Wear proper PPE at all times
- Other duties as assigned
To be qualified for this position, you must
- Must be able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide using decimals
- Must be able to operate slitter, or demonstrate skills needed to be fully competent to operate slitter with proper training
- Must be attentive to quality issues and demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills
- Must have strong mechanical aptitude
- Must have good communication skills
- Must be able to work effectively with a team and positively contribute to the team’s overall success and performance
- Must have a high school diploma or GED (required)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in the steel industry, especially with flat rolled steel, strongly preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
