Job Summary

The Sarosiek Laboratory at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking an organized and enthusiastic Research Assistant to support laboratory research in molecular biology within the department of Environmental Health. The Sarosiek Lab conducts cutting edge research in the regulation of cell death pathways in health and disease; the role of the Research Assistant will be to conduct this research under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group. Techniques utilized will include mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, Western blotting, molecular cloning, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.

The position is ideally suited to a recent graduate with an interest in future graduate study, beginning an MD, PhD, or other program in Fall 2027 or later. Previous undergraduates and Research Assistants in the Sarosiek Lab have gone on to further study in competitive graduate and medical programs.

Position Description

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Participation in regular meetings with Postdoctoral Fellow and Principal Investigator supervisors and with full research group, including regular presentation of research findings and clear communication of scientific concepts
  • Careful documentation of experimental procedures and data generated, including preparation of data figures for scientific publication
  • Managing inventory of scientific reagents and consumables, submitting and tracking orders as needed
  • Receiving training in various scientific techniques and performing bench research in molecular biology
  • May perform basic monitoring and maintenance of laboratory mouse lines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

PLEASE NOTE: Finalists will be required to pass an occupational health screening .

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).
