Job Summary

Under minimal direction, that Research Assistant (RA) independently performs and/or coordinates a wide range of laboratory research procedures and conducts a variety of complex support tasks and projects determined by the field and scope of the particular research study. They will perform a variety of laboratory techniques independently, reporting results to their supervisor or other lab personnel. The RA may be required to make judgments concerning future experiments depending upon results.

Position Description

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Performs cell culture, sample processing, performs flow cytometry experiments, immunological studies.
  • Coordinates multiple aspects of research project and carries out laboratory experiments
  • Collaborates with other lab members on experimental design, setting up protocols and developing new laboratory techniques
  • Processes, organizes, summarizes, and analyzes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms
  • May train and oversee the work of others in laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Assists with laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and/or purchasing equipment and supplies, working with vendors and undertaking special projects as required
  • Contributes to unit goals by undertaking other duties as required
  • Assists with writing manuscripts
  • Assists with analyzing data
  • Attends conferences

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year from the date of hire with the possibility of extension.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with a schedule of 37.5 hours/week.

Basic Qualifications


  • 3 years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Qualifications And Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:


  • Bachelors of science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental science, Genetics or in a related field preferred
  • Masters's Degree is a strong plus
  • 1 years of relevant experience in cell studies including flow cytometry is preferred; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 1 years experience performing basic laboratory technique preferred
  • Experience with organoid cultures and data analysis experience perferred
  • Experience with flow cytometry, basic lab technique
  • Excel, R, flow cytometry, cell culture
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).
