Position Description

Independently provide a broad range of Human Resources advice and services in support of Harvard Campus Services and Harvard Human Resources. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources for Campus Services.

Core Duties:


  • Provide technical guidance, consulting, and problem resolution for human resources related issues
  • Consult with managers and employees on employee relations issues and recommend resolutions
  • Provide support to managers on union related concerns including assisting with grievance responses
  • Coach managers or arrange coaching in performance management, employee relations, retention and career development
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to ensure regulatory and University policies are being followed regarding compensation, compliant recruiting, etc.
  • Manage compensation activities including partnering with management to conduct equity reviews, process upgrade requests, review promotions, administration of the bonus program, etc.
  • Develop HR related metrics/reports to support assigned business units
  • Liaise with University partners such as University Disability Resources, Compensation, Office of General Counsel and Office of Employee & Labor Relations, etc.
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of the operations of the client units as well as the needs and challenges of managers and staff.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to identify and build organizational capacity in alignment with University and Campus Services goals.
  • Collaborate with HHR partners and participate in related projects as assigned.
  • Participate in local HR projects in support of Campus Services including training development, employee engagement initiatives, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with University Human Resources policies, procedures, and requirements and applicable legal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant HR experience

Additional Qualifications And Skills


  • Experience working in a service sector environment supporting an hourly workforce
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS applications and analytics
  • Advanced knowledge of employment law and HR policies and practices; financial/business acumen
  • Demonstrated experience with the administration of bargaining unit policies and procedures
  • HR Certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, five-day-per-week exempt position with a hybrid schedule. Regular on-campus presence is a requirement of this role, including additional ad hoc days on campus for meetings, training, etc., as required and based on business need.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
