Additional Information
This position will be hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week on campus. Hybrid schedule will be determined in conjunction with the manager.

Position Description
- Administers searches for language preceptors and senior preceptors. Posts job ads, assists candidates with the submission of their applications, schedules interviews and search committee meetings.
- Processes visa application materials for language preceptors and senior preceptors, in coordination with the Harvard International Office.
- Coordinates the hiring of teaching fellows (Harvard students) and teaching assistants (non-Harvard students) to support NELC courses. Works with faculty and the Student Coordinator to identify qualified students within the department to fill these roles and potential TFs and TAs from other Harvard departments and outside the university as needed. Requests teaching sections from the Office of Undergraduate Education.
- Hires preceptors and TF / TAs onto the Harvard payroll.
- Onboards preceptors (with the Department Administrator) and TF / TAs.
- Advises supervisors and TF / TAs on relevant policies, including those related to the Harvard Graduate Student Union and employment rules for international students.
- Supports the registration process for language courses, including checking prerequisites and petitions.
- Assists with the administration of NELC's language citation programs. Advises students and faculty on the requirements of the language citation programs.
- Coordinates language placement exams.
- Supports the Department Administrator in the administration of language instructor reviews. Gathers and organizes materials for the review dossiers.
- Assists with language program events, student outreach and engagement, and language program communications.
- Keeps records for the language programs, including documentation of student exception approvals, changes to language program curricula, and funding for preceptors.
- Assists the DLP and heads of the ancient language programs with other projects as needed.
- Works with the rest of the departmental staff to support department-wide events and provides general administrative support to the department as needed.

Job Summary
Works independently performing a wide range of complex and confidential administrative and clerical duties to support the language programs of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC). NELC is home to more than fourteen language programs in a variety of Middle Eastern languages, both ancient and modern. This position reports to the Department Administrator and works closely with the Director of the Modern Language Programs (DLP), heads of the ancient language programs, and the Student Coordinator. Key responsibilities include administration of the department's teaching fellow and teaching assistant appointments and support to the modern and ancient language programs.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
