The Digital Data Design (D^3) Institute at Harvard is accepting applications for postdoctoral fellows for academic year 2025-2026 to work on research activities at our research labs. D^3 conducts research at the intersection of academia and practice. For more information on D^3, please visit https : / / d3.harvard.edu / labs . D^3 is looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and / or new perspectives. There are no teaching requirements for these open positions.
The D^3 Climate and Sustainability Impact Lab is looking for a postdoctoral fellow with demonstrated research interests in climate and sustainability to work with Principal Investigator Mike Toffel and affiliated faculty Christian Kaps. This postdoctoral fellow will dedicate at least 50% of their time to lab-related projects with these faculty, focused on topics around the adoption and use of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and other aspects of the electrification of transportation.
Candidates should have some familiarity with some or all of the following :
- Causal analysis and experimental design : difference-in-differences and fixed effects models, instrumental variables, treatment selection, power analysis, analysis of attrition and non-compliance, analysis of heterogenous effects and interference;
- Programming / scripting knowledge suitable for processing raw data for analysis (e.g., text manipulation);
- One or more computational environments for statistical analysis (e.g., Stata, Python, or R);
- Creating and managing very large datasets;
- Machine learning skills;
- Designing lab experiments, field experiments, and / or surveys.
Basic Qualifications
It is not a requirement to have a degree in climate or environmental science, only an interest or work that relates to climate and sustainability.

Additional Information :
This is a term appointment starting summer 2025 (start date flexible) through June 30, 2026, with possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. Relocation funding is not provided.
This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your supervisors.
