Job Summary

The Social and Digital Content Producer (SDCP) reports to the Assistant Director for Social Media, and their primary responsibilities revolve around the day-to-day creation of social media content for our flagship social media channels. In addition, the SDCP will support the Digital Team by maintaining key areas of our flagship website, scheduling and assisting with on-campus shoots conducted by our multimedia team and supporting other short and long term digital projects.

Position Description

Social media
  • The Social and Digital Content Producer will compose and schedule social media posts for our flagship school channels. The platforms where we are most active at this time are: Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • The SDCP will write original copy for social media posts, with an eye toward accessibility, School voice, and current trends in social media and public health.
  • The SDCP will film and edit original video content for social media posts, with the possibility of being on-camera talent. The SDCP will also collaborate with our video producers and graphic designers on more complex projects. Knowledge of Photoshop, Canva, and basic video/image editing software are required.
  • The SDCP will write, edit, and schedule posts as assigned by the Assistant Director for Social Media, and will also flag opportunities to create new content or recirculate existing content.
  • Along with the rest of the digital team, the SDCP will review upcoming campus and virtual events for opportunities to create social posts that will be of interest to our social media audiences, and capture photos or cell phone video when appropriate.
  • The SDCP will work with the Assistant Director for Social media to analyze and report on the efficacy of our social media campaigns, which may include reviewing data in Sprout Social such as engagement, views, and audience growth.

Web
  • The Social and Digital Content Producer will be the primary manager of the School-wide Events Calendar on the School website.
  • The SDCP will review incoming requests to elevate events to the School’s calendar, review for proper style, grammar, punctuation, appropriate images, and adherence to digital accessibility policies.
  • The SDCP will then approve the events for the calendar or work with the submitter to improve the content.
  • The SDCP will also support our team in maintaining key pages directed at prospective students and researchers (“Who we are” and “Student life”) by reviewing copy for inaccuracies and recommending new content to feature from our library of videos, articles, and photos.

Multimedia support
  • The SDCP will support scheduling and on-site logistics for video shoots or podcast recordings, including booking space, coordinating with talent, assisting the production team with tasks like carrying equipment, greeting talent, obtaining signatures for release forms, and other non-technical tasks.

Additional digital communications support
  • The SDCP may be asked to assist with short and/or long-term special projects relating to digital communications.

The SDCP will also be expected to assist with the following:
  • Maintaining our digital asset library in Canto by tagging photos and video
  • Scheduling and recommending presenters for the All School Communicators meetings
  • Preparing reports on completed projects

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of work experience in a writing, marketing, producing, or communications role, or related transferable experience to include 2-3 years of experience creating multimedia content for social media and other digital platforms
  • Experience with social media platforms (ex. Tiktok, LinkedIn, Bluesky, etc), experience with creative tools (ex. Adobe Creative, Canva, Capcut)

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent writing and multimedia skills; Ability to adapt voice and tone to audience
  • Strong writing and editing skills required, basic photo and video editing
  • Adapt language to our brand’s tone and to the style of individual social media platforms
  • Experience working independently and with a team to accomplish goals
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and their strengths/weaknesses
  • Understanding of social media metrics

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
