Middle School Latin Teacher (Part-Time) for 2024-25
Harvard-Westlake School seeks to hire an exceptional and highly qualified educator for a part-time Latin teaching position in the Middle School World Languages Department (grades 7-9). The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to deliver rich and effective lessons in teaching the Latin language and classical civilization to a diverse group of students. The course load will include either two or three classes, depending on the candidates availability. A two-course teaching load would not include benefits whereas a three-class course load would. Interested candidates should indicate in their cover letter how many courses they are able and willing to teach.
Summary of duties:
- Teach multiple levels of Latin language courses, Latin 1 through Latin 3.
- Prepare syllabi, homework assignments, and course materials on our learning management system in coordination with departmental colleagues for vertical and horizontal integration of curriculum.
- Grade students' assessments and complete progress reports.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with students and their parents.
- Participate in regular, purposeful pedagogical meetings and professional development.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades and school administration documents as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Summary of desired qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Latin or Classics, the teaching of Latin, or related field.
- Experience teaching Latin in a similar school setting.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated collegiality and organization.

Compensation: Anticipated base compensation is $32,000-$60,000 depending on experience and the number of courses taught. The position will begin in August 2024.
