Harvard-Westlake School Library Assistant
The Harvard-Westlake Upper School Mudd Library is seeking a proactive, organized, and creative part-time Library Assistant to join our team. As a Library Assistant, you’ll play a key role in cultivating a sense of community and making the library a welcoming and engaging place for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a friendly and supportive presence in the library, ensuring a respectful and productive community-oriented environment.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with circulation services, library resources, and technology support (online resources, digital tools, printers, etc.).
- Support essential library functions, including maintaining circulation records, assisting with collection development, processing new materials, and conducting inventory.
- Perform miscellaneous administrative functions in support of upper school offices such as attendance and student affairs.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field, with experience working with diverse young adult communities (grades 10-12) and educators.
- Library Experience: Prior experience in libraries is a plus but not required. A strong customer service mindset, the ability to anticipate needs, and a willingness to learn are essential.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent judgment, patience, flexibility, and a talent for engaging with both teens and professionals.
- Passion for Literature & Learning: A love for young adult and adult literature, and a desire to foster meaningful connections around what libraries do.
- Adaptability & Initiative: Comfortable working in a fast-paced academic environment, balancing multiple responsibilities at one time, as well as the ability to work independently.

Compensation: Compensation for this role is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour depending on experience.
Scheduling & Hours
- This is a part-time position, requiring 15-20 hours per week during the school year.
- The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Occasional evening or special event coverage may be requested.
Salary : $25 - $35
