Our client, the?Domestic Violence Service Center ("DVSC"), is currently seeking a?full-time Executive Director. This is an exempt position.
The mission of DVSC is to work toward the elimination of domestic violence. DVSC is a non-profit agency that offers victims and their children a place where they can be safe, a respite from abuse, a place where they can heal, a place where they can put their lives back in order and plan for a brighter and violence-free future.
Overview:
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing staff and programs to support and further the mission, philosophies, core values and goals of Domestic Violence Service Center. By means of their leadership, advocacy, administration and fiscal skills, the Executive Director ensures the appropriate delivery of services for families experiencing domestic violence.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administration
Implement DVSC Board-generated long range and strategic plans as well as Board-approved policies and procedures. Supervise the management and use of DVSC assets and resources. Plan, organize, and evaluate DVSC administrative functions.
Board Relations
Regularly update the Board of Directors on all DVSC activity and issues which may have an impact on the agency.
Fiscal Management
Work with the DVSC Finance Committee and key staff members to prepare annual budgets and provide leadership and expertise about agency needs. Maintain working relationships with funding sources.
Grant Management
Research new funding prospects. Prepare new and ongoing grant proposals to support and expand the work of DVSC in accordance with agency philosophy and goals.
Program Development and Administration
Keep informed and up to date on literature, research, and legislation related to domestic violence, homelessness, and women’s issues. Implement Board-approved services and activities. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness. Maintain working relationship with PCADV. Assure compliance with PCADV Program Standards and other guidelines promulgated by federal, state, and local funders and regulatory agencies.
Community Relations and Systems Advocacy
Coordinate efforts with other agencies and community resources. Assess needs of the community regarding DVSC services. Assure the provision of information and education to the community regarding domestic violence and DVSC services.
Personnel Management
Provide leadership to DVSC staff. Assure that employees are hired, trained, evaluated,
disciplined, promoted, and dismissed as per approved DVSC personnel policies. Provide direct supervision to and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
Record Keeping
Assure the required documentation of service provision, financial management, personnel management, and supervision as required by funders and other regulatory bodies.
Training/Education
Complete Counselor/Advocate training as required by the PA Protection From Abuse Act.
Assure the training and orientation of new employees, volunteers, and student interns.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum Requirements
Education
A master’s degree in social work, public administration, or other related field OR a bachelor’s degree with two years of administrative or supervisory experience.
Experience
An educational/experiential background in staff supervision; non-profit administration; statistical record keeping; program and budget development; and computer literacy are preferred.
Key Competencies

An understanding of and commitment to client self-determination.
An understanding of feminist philosophy and issues; of problems faced by victims of domestic violence; and of problems faced by disadvantaged and homeless women.
Effective communication skills including writing and public speaking.

Driver’s license, access to a motor vehicle, adequate insurance.
