The Director of Training is responsible for improving the productivity of Harwood Hospitality Group associates, from line-level staff to management. This role involves assessing the developmental needs across all concepts to drive training initiatives and identifying appropriate training solutions. Additionally, the Director seeks out, designs, and implements effective methods to educate associates, improve performance, and recognize achievements, all while fostering and reinforcing the culture of HHG.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to communicate Hospitality Excellence, fostering both skill development and personal growth for team members.
- Drive brand standards by utilizing techniques and systems that ensure consistent high-performance levels across operations.
- Create and manage development and training programs, collaborating closely with hospitality management teams.
- Work alongside Directors and General Managers to ensure full implementation of brand training initiatives, enhancing team member performance at all levels.
- Design and implement Management Development and Self-Directed Development Programs to prepare associates for growth opportunities and future roles.
- Oversee workshops, individual training sessions, and other learning initiatives to support team growth.
- Partner with leadership to identify key talent and support strategic succession planning.
- Maintain a deep understanding of HHG’s brand and aesthetics, developing systems and programs to align with these standards.
- Collaborate with property leadership to identify opportunities for improving productivity, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
- Oversee new hire orientation for hospitality employees, ensuring a smooth onboarding process.
- Create and refine training courses for HHG’s core business departments (e.g., Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Human Resources, Housekeeping).
- Identify and develop restaurant trainers, working with them to enhance their effectiveness.
- Partner with People & Culture and the Leadership Team to identify talent and deploy development programs aligned with succession planning.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training courses and development programs through metrics and business impact analysis.
- Collaborate with People & Culture to facilitate mandatory training sessions.
- Display a strong passion for hospitality and team building, ensuring profitability and exceptional guest experiences.
Requirements, Skills & Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in hospitality training is required, with a background in human resources, business administration, or education preferred.
- Familiarity with modern and traditional training methods and excellent leadership, motivational, and communication skills.
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities, with advanced computer and database skills.
- Proficient in decision-making, problem-solving, collaboration, and prioritization.
- Proven ability to work independently and drive team goals, with experience overseeing training across a portfolio of hotels.
- Expertise in designing and executing successful training programs.
