JOB TITLE : Student Support Specialist - Elementary
FLSA STATUS : Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVES : To be a part of a Student Support Team (SST) that ensures a positive and productive learning environment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a student management system that includes preventative education and disciplinary routines and positive interventions designed to improve student outcomes.
- Assist in student supervision including the student success space, cafeteria, gym, playground and other areas of the school as appropriate.
- Assist in the design and implementation of instruction in prosocial and healthy behaviors.
- Work with assigned students individually or in groups to address social skills, stress reduction, anger control, self-concept and related issues through the development and implementation of student behavioral management / modification plans.
- Assist in consultation with classroom teachers the behavioral needs of students and integrating students back into the classroom if they have been removed.
- Assist in evaluating student progress, problems and needs.
- Assist in consultation with classroom teachers and other pertinent personnel in developing formats for instruction, routines and teaching strategies that support student growth.
- Conduct task analysis, data collection, and classroom observations on student performance and / or behavior.
- Participate as assigned, to assist in the development of student plans and assessing student progress, problems and needs.
- Assist with interventions to avoid negative explosive behaviors, and to deal with such behavior if needed, using non-aversive restraint techniques in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist in compiling and monitoring learning opportunities related to specific behaviors that put students at risk.
- Assist in compiling and organizing instructional materials from classroom teachers for students that have removed from the classroom setting.
- Process routine communications as related to student management.
- Participate in and / or supervise various school community activities.
- Attend and participate in all relevant training and / or professional development opportunities as assigned.
- Reviews and processes all bus referrals.
- Communicates with parents regarding behavior issues and discipline as necessary.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Reports to and is evaluated by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : No formal supervisory duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
