Assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and skill when assisting the surgical team throughout the procedure.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy for surgical procedures anticipates supplies needed and had supplies available when needed.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques practices correcting breaks in technique if they occur.
- Performs sponge sharps and instruments counts according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
- Prepares the room with appropriate instruments supplies and equipment before the procedure and prepares the instruments for the decontamination process removes unused supplies and equipment and restocks the room.
- Handles specimens appropriately identifying them correctly.
- Managers repair of instruments and equipment obtains loaners if necessary notifies appropriate personnel and follows up when necessary.
- Participates with the OR team to identify the patient procedure and the side/site of surgery according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
- Employee will comply with the principles of Infection Control and Aseptic Technique.

- High School education or equivalent.
- Surgical Tech certification required. BLS Certification required.
