Job Summary
The assistant director plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the program and overseeing the curriculum. Key responsibilities of the assistant director encompass: managing staff relationships, handling administrative paperwork, and attending as well as assisting with staff meetings and training sessions. The assistant director reports directly to the director. Additionally, the assistant director is expected to foster a positive and collaborative work environment, ensuring that all staff members feel supported and valued. This role requires excellent communication skills, as the assistant director often acts as a liaison between the director and the rest of the team. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial, as the assistant director must be prepared to address any challenges that arise swiftly and efficiently. By maintaining a keen eye on the program's goals and objectives, the assistant director contributes significantly to its overall success and growth.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain confidentiality for all student and staff information.
  • Maintain a professional and approachable appearance.
  • Knowledge in all day-to-day operations of the center in order to serve as backup for the director.
  • Data and records management for the center.
  • Communicates effectively and thoroughly with the Director
  • Arrive to work consistently and promptly when scheduled.
  • Responsible for food program data entry, record keeping, and supply ordering.
  • Assists with facilitating staff meetings, development, and training.
  • Assist the director in the hiring, onboarding, monitoring, scheduling, evaluating, supporting, and coaching of the staff.
  • Assists the director with social media and marketing campaigns for the center.
  • Provides curriculum oversight by assisting Lead Teachers (as needed) in preparing daily, weekly, and yearly program plans that align with the center curriculum.
  • Assists Director with classroom observations and quality assessments and provide teachers/caregivers with meaningful feedback.
  • Assimilate information from teachers and board of director meetings to create a monthly newsletter for parents.
  • Responsible for organizing and conducting fundraising events
  • Responsible for scheduling and organizing field trips and community engagement
  • Responsible for building maintenance and ensuring the projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for curriculum oversight
  • Responsible for overall understanding of the center curriculum and assessment platform
  • Responsible for training lead teachers on selected curriculum
  • Responsible for assessing lead teacher's curriculum planning, implementation and effectiveness in the classroom
  • Assist lead teacher (as needed) in preparing daily, weekly, and annual program plans that align with the center curriculum
  • Provide recommendations to the director for curriculum changes
  • Substitute teach as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required

  • Able to work full-time five days a week.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional childcare experience as a lead teacher. Experience as an assistant director or team leader is preferred.
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in ECE. Bachelor’s in ECE is preferred.
  • High energy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of and passion for child development and early education.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and TB Test.
