What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Choral Activities position at Hastings College?
The Department of Music and Theatre at Hastings College welcomes applications for a tenure-track professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities - to start in fall 2025. The position is open rank with the potential for department leadership - commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will direct the Hastings College Choir, teach applied voice and courses in the candidate’s area of specialty, including but not limited to diction and vocal pedagogy. There is an expectation to engage with area schools for clinics and recruitment. A masters degree in music or music education is required, but a terminal degree in Choral Conducting (or related field and experience) is preferred. Extensive professional performing experience as a singer is also favored.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, statement of teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and contact information for at least three references. Supplemental materials may include student reflections on teaching. The materials should also contain links to representative recordings of the candidate conducting a choir in rehearsal, and (optionally) singing in live performance.

ABOUT HASTINGS COLLEGE MUSIC
The Music Department is located in the Hayes M. Fuhr Hall of Music, a facility erected in 1956 specifically for music, and renovated in 1990. The Hayes M. Fuhr Hall of Music features rehearsal halls to accommodate performing ensembles, a recital hall seating 240 persons, 18 practice rooms, classroom space, individual studios for professors, and a student lounge. Fuhr Hall is well-equipped with Steinway pianos and a pipe organ for study, practice and performance. Beginning piano students receive instruction in our Yamaha Clavinova Piano Laboratory, which also features PC’s equipped with software for composition, ear-training, marching band show design, and arranging. The performing ensembles have up-to-date equipment available for their use.
