POSITION TITLE:        1.0 FTE Long-Term Substitute Literacy Specialist/Coach

 

Reports to:                   K-5 Literacy Department Head & Building Principal

 

Terms of Employment:    To cover a leave of absence from approximately April 9, 2025 through the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

 

$175 per diem, non-benefits eligible position.

 

JOB GOAL:  

 

The literacy specialist/ coach facilitates the Lexington elementary literacy program. This includes coaching and collaborating with teachers, planning and facilitating professional development, and collaborating with department colleagues.

 

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work collaboratively with the school-wide and district-wide teams to implement up-to-date curriculum and best practices in literacy instruction.
  2. Work collaboratively with the school-wide team on the appropriate use of data in making educational decisions.
  3. Facilitate the coordination of school-wide professional learning opportunities for teachers and grade-level teams.
  4. Collaborate with building administration and teacher teams to review student data and incorporate best practices in meeting students needs with an equity lens.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.

  3. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  5. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  6. Maintain a schedule to support K-5 Literacy classrooms through a combination of push-in support and grade-level common planning times.
  7. Attend Literacy Specialist/ Coaching meetings and share pertinent information with building administration and teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:                 

  • Appropriate MA DESE licensure in Academic Teacher: Elementary, all grade levels
  • Master’s degree in Specialist teacher of Reading, Language and Literacy, English Language Arts Curriculum, and/or English as a Second Language, preferred.
  • Leadership and organizational qualities that include the ability to facilitate teams, communicate collaboratively, coach, train and lead others, and coordinate data.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the MTSS process, at-risk supports, literacy research and development, and culturally responsive instruction.
