What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Math Teacher - Part Time position at Hathaway Brown School?
The Mathematics Department at Hathaway Brown School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Part-Time Middle School Mathematics Teacher. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a range of middle school mathematics courses, from introductory fifth-grade math through honors geometry. Experience with educational technology, including computer algebra systems, is required.
- Teach mathematics classes as assigned by the Mathematics Department Chair.
- Collaborate with department members to support student growth in mathematical understanding and potential.
- Participate in chaperoning/supervisory duties approximately twice a year.
- Engage in Middle School life by attending assemblies, events, and contributing to the community.
- Advise a small group of students, including leading parent-teacher conferences and writing year-end student development narratives.
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Teaching Experience: Demonstrated success in developing and delivering an effective and engaging middle school mathematics curriculum.
- Adolescent Development: Strong understanding of middle school students and effective classroom practices.
- Technology Proficiency: Skilled in using technology to enhance learning in a 21st-century classroom.
- Collaboration: Team-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments.
- Cultural Competence: High level of familiarity with and competence across cultures and diverse perspectives.
- Energy and Initiative: A proactive approach to teaching and community involvement.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with parents and/or employees of an organization.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
