Hathaway Brown, one of the country’s most distinguished private schools, with a nationally recognized science research program, seeks a full-time Upper School science teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal applicant will have experience teaching high school biology. The ability to teach introductory chemistry or physics is also essential. We are searching for an educator who can:
- Develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum in a high school science classroom.
- Collaborate constructively with colleagues on innovative course design.
- Respond proactively to meet the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of girls in an upper school setting.
- Seek out opportunities to expand cultural competence and design curricula rooted in diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Connect with students with a knowledge of adolescent development and effective classroom practice for the high school classroom.
- Build positive relationships with high school students; a powerful student mentor.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues and families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructing the equivalent of 4 full-credit courses which may include Upper School Biology classes and/or an additional Upper School Chemistry or Upper School Physics class
- Mentoring approximately 10 Upper School students (academic counseling, community building, parent/guardian communication, conferencing.)
- Engaging in the life of the Upper School (presence at assemblies, events, etc.)
- Chaperoning/supervisory duties approximately three times a year.
- Participating in school-wide, departmental, divisional, and mentor team meetings.
- Writing college letters of recommendation for students when appropriate.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
