JOB TITLE: School Adjustment Counselor - Long Term Sub
***THIS IS A LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE POSITION FROM 4/14 - 6/20/25.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The School Adjustment Counselor promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by helping build skills in students to manage any social/emotional/situational barriers to learning while providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships. The School Adjustment Counselor significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies for the individual student, classroom and home.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides individual, group and crisis counseling to students.
- Acts as a link between home, school and community to address issues adversely affecting student’s academic and social achievement to maximize their learning potential.
- Meets with a school-based Support Team to review and address student needs.
- Assists with the implementation of the School Guidance Curriculum in the classroom.
- Consults with staff around student academic and social performance in and out of the classroom.
- In conjunction with student, teacher and parent goals, develops interventions for individual students for school, friendships and home.
- Assists with the management of 504 Plans.
- Counsels with parents toward improving home situations to allow for better outcomes in student school work, behavior, attendance, and interest.
- Serves as a liaison between home, school and outside agencies when considerable follow-up is necessary i.e. at risk cases, foster home children and disadvantaged students.
- Provides parents with an understanding of the various school programs, rules and procedures.
- Provides school staff with an understanding of the student’s family needs and perspectives.
- Helps families make appropriate social agency contacts when needed.
- Serves as the liaison between the school and outside agencies such as the Department of Children and Families, Department of Mental Health, the Court, and other agencies.
- Serves as a member of the school’s Crisis Team.
- Consults with home assessments
- Assists with home visits
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s in Education from a school accredited by the Department of Education.
- Massachusetts Teacher’s Certification.
- A minimum of three years of post-Master’s experience, including at least 1-2 years of school system experience
- preferred.
- LICSW/LMHC or LICSW/LMHC eligible and working with a licensed clinical supervisor.
- Possess those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
TERMS: This is a Long Term Sub position. 40 day assignment, $125 per day.
