Position Summary :

The Assistant CNO is responsible to provide leadership to all nursing staff assigned to the Designated Units and serves as a representative on the Senior Leadership Team; direct departmental operations responsibility as assigned.  This position assists the CNO with staffing, budgeting, patient, employee and physician satisfaction, monitors volume and provides education / coaching to staff in regard to hospital policies, procedures and training of new processes and equipment.

ACNO is in the Department of Nursing Service position that provides delivery of patient care with the knowledge of a Registered Nurse. Provides leadership by working cooperatively and effectively with physicians, ancillary staff and other administrative and support personnel in maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice in the multidisciplinary clinical setting.

Maintains quality delivery of patient care by completing patient assignments in compliance with the Nursing Process, the Arizona Nurse Practice Act. TJC and State regulations and established Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Assists the CNO with clinical performance improvement projects; assists with planning and coordination of new or enhanced clinical services.

Assist the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in providing leadership to nursing staff that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the hospital.

Assist the CNO in maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations

Partnering with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital

Assisting in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue

Creating an environment that will encourage recruiting and retention of clinical employees

Assisting the CNO in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs

Assisting the CNO in establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services

Developing organizational patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered and evaluated.

Assisting the CNO in developing and managing the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to assess patient needs

Planning and providing nursing care interventions and prevent complications, promote improvement and patient comfort and wellness

Analyzing areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities

Representing the nursing services at meetings as deemed necessary; participates with department heads in designing and providing patient care and services

In the absence of the CNO, the ACNO may be required to interpret hospital policy and provide guidance.

Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, including all state, TJC and Federal regulations in their area of practice.

Minimum Qualifications :

Minimum Education

Masters Degree in Nursing or other Related field, from an accredited institution. Will consider Candidates currently enrolled in Masters Program.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum 5 years RN experience; Must possess detailed knowledge of hospital nursing operations; Management experience required, prefer 2 years of demonstrated successful leadership in an acute-care hospital environment (For-profit experience preferred).

Required Skills

Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment; Telephone / Overhead Paging System / Fax Machine / Calculator / Computer. As pertinent to the position, must be able to use computer, telephone, calculator and adapt to new technology as it becomes available and necessary for the job.Must have a positive attitude, even temperament in stress / conflict situations.
