POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety and Health Manager provides technical safety, health, and environmental support to production and corporate personnel. This person develops and leads plant safety, health, and environmental programs, objectives, and coordinates safety training programs. The Plant Safety and Health Manager monitors safety, health, and environmental regulations and provides technical support to the plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations, including but not limited to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), fall protection, vehicle safety programs, respiratory programs, personal protective equipment, and electrical including NFPA standards approved by OSHA. Also this position will lead and supervise the activities of the Safety Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position involves frequent (up to 5 hours per day) sitting and moving around an office and manufacturing environment. The work environment is climate controlled with low noise levels while in his/her office.
Work will involve frequent operation of standard office equipment and a computer which requires repetitive typing motion and viewing a monitor.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. On the production floor or facility grounds, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This person must have a valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Safety and Health Manager
- Accomplishes results by clearly communicating expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising results; coaching and ensuring employees are counseled related to safety violations in accordance with HAVCO policies; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Develops annual plant and safety goals.
- Monitors safety relative to budget expenses and adjusts as needed.
- Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses and operator training, etc.
- Must document accidents and analyze trends in accident and workers’ compensation data regarding first aid and other safety related issues, including training and compliance and guide the Safety Committee in actions necessary to move the culture always forward in safety.
- Advises manufacturing plant and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
- All other tasks as assigned by an immediate supervisor.
- Training & Development
- Partner with plant management to develop and support a culture that enables employees to successfully perform and meet safety goals and objectives.
- Identifies company safety training needs to develops and coordinate safety training programs.
- Train all new hires on health/safety rules and regulations.
- Must help to enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to safety by conducting and documenting monthly safety trainings as required by OSHA and the company guidelines.
- Administer wellness programs to improve health and wellness of employees.
- Employee Relations
- Build value-added relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of department employees.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and counseling to managers and employees regarding health and safety issues.
- Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
- Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Partner with plant management to design, and evaluate programs, policies and practices in order to ensure a safe, healthy and secure working environment, including occupational injury and illness prevention programs, emergency action plan, substance abuse, use of electronic media and privacy.
- Lead and at times coordinate with team managers, safety meetings with the departments.
- Must follow all OSHA and HAVCO safety rules/regulations.
- Must identify and aid in the corrections of any safety hazards and notify the immediate Supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
- Identify and aid in the corrections of any safety hazards in an appropriate manner, engaging them to develop a deeper safety culture.
- Help facilitate the safety inspection process with managers and supervisors as well as, maintain inspection documents.
- Must be willing to assist other leaders in developing or revising safety processes where needed.
- Must be willing to conduct and document hazard assessments for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lock Out\Tag Out (LOTO), confined space permits, HAZCOM, and industrial hygiene needs.
- Must assist in managing and maintaining day-to-day EHS programs, including new hire orientation training, PPE requirements, etc.
- Must conduct accident and incident investigations to determine probable cause through the use of Root Cause Analyses (RCA) practices and other tools. Solicit and make recommendations to management of corrective actions to migrate future recurrences following investigations.
- Must have an understanding of Continuous Improvement (CI) Structure.
- Must be willing to participate in AD-HOC teams to eradicate or minimize issues/losses.
- Must be willing to participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams/Pillars.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
- In lieu of degree, five years of validated experience would be considered.
- Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour certification for safety managers.
- Advanced training in risk management, hazard analysis, or emergency response protocols.
- Minimum of three years of industrial safety work related experience required.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
- Must possess and exercise high integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess the ability to learn and adapt quickly, take initiative, and produce complete and accurate work.
- Must be an organized problem solver, able to meet deadlines and follow through to project completion.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to prioritize, multi-task and manage time efficiently.
- Must exercise the ability to deal effectively with employees at all levels.
- Must be able to manage stressful situations in the event an employee were to become injured.
