POSITION TITLE: Advocate
POSITION LEVEL: Direct Service
SUPERVISOR: Advocacy Program Manager
ABOUT HAVEN:
HAVEN is a catalyst for individual empowerment and societal change: advocating for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking and working to end gender-based violence. HAVEN has been serving adults and children affected by domestic and sexual violence for over 40 years. At HAVEN, we use a trauma-informed, client-centered service model, which focuses on the client setting the direction, establishing their own goals and objectives, and being empowered to make their decisions.
This position IS NOT subject to mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse because 1) This position provides services to adults only and so is not subject to mandated reporting under CANRA OR 2) This position does not present in schools as part of a child abuse prevention program. Such a report, including sharing identifying information with a mandated reporter position at HAVEN, without following "release of confidential information" policies is a breach of confidentiality and can result in termination.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide ongoing crisis intervention, safety planning, and survivor-centered case management to include: coordination of resources for needs related to housing, employment, physical and mental health, education, finances, legal, and other.
- Provide all elements of the program in a timely, empathic, and supportive manner. Program elements include crisis intervention, safety planning, one-on-one peer counseling, support group facilitation, restraining order preparation, advocacy with legal systems, and court accompaniment as capacity allows.
- Identify client immediate legal needs for safety and assist with accessing legal system to meet those needs.
- Advocate for client with other agencies, such as Law enforcement, Child Abduction Unit, District Attorney’s office, when such intervention is appropriate.
- Attend appropriate community professional meetings, mandatory staff meeting and monthly program meeting
- Maintain case files, document client sessions and services provided, and maintain updated demographic reports for regular funder reports.
- Engage in ongoing training to ensure best-practice development and knowledge of current resources for clients
- Assist in developing informational materials and conduct presentations about domestic violence and sexual assault dynamics, and resources, including advocate training as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM / DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual: Required. Spanish preferred.

- Ability to work as a team member and prioritize workload
- Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude and a willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to maintain records and necessary paperwork
- Must have ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; Word
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.85 - $20.35 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
