Under the general direction of the President, the Upper School Principal provides leadership for the academic and extra-curricular operations of the Academy for grades 7 through 12. Areas of responsibility include Faith Community Affairs, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Athletics. The Upper School Principal serves as a transformational leader, fostering a climate of well-being and engagement of Upper School students, faculty, staff, and families within the Academy. The Upper School Principal serves as an instructional leader, responsible for the implementation of research-based curriculum and instruction that results in strong student achievement. The Upper School Principal serves as a role model, reflecting the Catholic identity and charism of Sacred Hearts Academy while also embodying the creativity, innovation, and forward-thinking mindset to grow the school.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in education, Educational Leadership, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience.
  • 3 years of administrative experience in Grades 7-12.
  • Knowledge of contemporary educational trends and best practices in teaching and learning applicable to girls and young women.
  • Strong knowledge of grades 7 – 12 curriculum and instructional methodologies.
  • Must be a committed Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic teachings, values, and traditions, and the ability to serve as a spiritual leader in a Catholic educational environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse team of educators and staff.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
  • Must be able to understand, read / write in English to follow basic instructions, and take direction from supervisors and clients.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus / Safe Environment policy.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Able to work all shifts and extended hours.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Experience in a Catholic, faith-based, or private school setting.
  • Educational or professional knowledge on learning differences or special education.
  • Minimum 5 years of administrative experience in Grades 7-12, preferably as a principal.
  • Other Qualifications :

  • Experience in developing and implementing school policies, programs, and curricula.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and well-being.
  • Experience with student discipline, counseling, and support services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle conflicts and emergencies with calm and professionalism.
  • High ethical standards and integrity in professional conduct.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
  • Key Responsibilities :

    Academic Affairs (65%)

  • Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of the Registrar.
  • Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of Upper School faculty and staff.
  • Professional development programs for Upper School faculty and academic staff.
  • Upper School curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Upper School summer school and auxiliary programs.
  • Student records and transcripts.
  • Faith Community Affairs (10%)

  • In partnership with the President, maintains the Catholic identity of Sacred Hearts Academy.
  • Works with the Office of Mission Effectiveness and Campus Ministry to ensure the development of the faith community through faculty / staff retreats, student retreats, and service-learning programs; the integration of faith within the curriculum and instructional practices; oversees the Theology program, liturgies, para-liturgical services, prayer services, and song practices; and coordinates students’ service travel program.
  • Supervision, evaluation and dismissal of the Director of Student Activities (or Dean of Students or Vice Principal as titled).
  • Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of the Upper School counselors.
  • In partnership with the Dean of Student Activities, plans and coordinates co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • In partnership with the Director of Counseling, coordinates student support.
  • Maintaining a positive and safe school environment by overseeing student discipline. This includes developing, implementing, and enforcing behavior management policies, addressing student conduct issues, and ensuring that disciplinary actions are consistent, fair, and in accordance with school guidelines and regulations.
  • Athletic Affairs (10%)

  • Work with the Athletic Director to develop and implement policies regarding player eligibility and the expectations of coaches and staff.
  • In partnership with the Athletic Director, foster a positive and supportive environment for students, parents, and staff, ensuring that all parental and student concerns are handled in a fair, respectful, and consistent manner in alignment with school policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)

  • Serves as community relations liaison for the Academy.
  • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
  • Assist with seasonal peaks.
  • Education : Masters
