The Director of Event Technology (DET) leads revenue generation and profit achievement for assigned venues. This position champions exceptional service delivery while building strategic relationships with key venue stakeholders to strengthen business partnerships. The DET drives team excellence through performance standards, accountability measures, and continuous improvement initiatives, creating a collaborative culture focused on learning and quality. Overseeing a small team of less than two full-time staff members and managing venue revenue under $3M.
Job Description Summary
Account Management
- Build and maintain strong client relationships across all organizational levels
- Serve as an escalation point for event challenges
- Identify key factors for contract renewals and develop effective renewal strategies
- Collaborate with Sales Leadership on strategic initiatives
Financial Leadership
- Drive operational excellence while maximizing revenue and profitability
- Manage labor costs, equipment rentals, and operational expenses to meet financial targets
- Oversee billing systems and ensure timely invoice processing
- Develop accurate sales forecasts and take ownership of venue P&L
Operations Management
- Supervise daily operations including crew scheduling and equipment processes
- Ensure equipment and services meet all specifications and brand standards
- Implement effective inventory control procedures
- Optimize resource utilization across locations
Technical & Sales Expertise
- Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Develop strategies to maximize revenue through upselling opportunities
- Create professional proposals and attend planning meetings
- Maintain accurate customer information and stay current on industry technologies
Leadership & Development
- Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability and continuous improvement
- Oversee performance management and maintain appropriate staffing levels
- Provide coaching and identify development opportunities for team members
- Train staff on service standards and equipment protocols

Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 3 years of audiovisual production experience
- At least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory capacity
- Minimum 2 years of customer service or hospitality experience strongly preferred
- Sales experience beneficial
- Demonstrated proficiency with audiovisual equipment in live event environments
- Strong computer hardware knowledge
- Advanced computer software proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite and internet applications
- Proven leadership capabilities with strong customer satisfaction orientation
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in hotel/venue and convention center settings with some exposure to outdoor elements including temperature variations, dirt, sand, and dust. Noise levels range from moderately quiet to loud. The role requires handling sophisticated audiovisual equipment and electrical components, with potential exposure to heights when using lifts and ladders.
Team members may be assigned to multiple venue locations and should expect irregular working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays with on-call availability. All team members must comply with Hawai'i Stage appearance guidelines specific to their assigned venue.
