What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Guard position at Hawaii Detective & Guard - Kona Division?
Location - Punalu'u Black Sand Beach - Big Island
The Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, employees, and park property within the assigned state park. This includes monitoring park areas and facilities, enforcing park rules and regulations, and responding to emergency situations as needed.
Duties:
-One security personnel stationed in the area during scheduled hours. All security personnel to be assigned to the park shall undergo an orientation training with Department representatives at the park site to familiarize them with the premises and facilities.
-Security personnel shall enforce all sections of Chapter 14 and 15 of Hawai’i County Code. Maintain a physical copy of such at the park for reference and provide upon request of any patron when being advised that they are in non-compliance.
-Security personnel shall be positioned in an area visible to the public near the main entrance to the park.
-Enforce all park rules, to include, strictly enforcing no drinking as per Hawaii County Code Section 14-2.2 (3)(A), checking all campers permits, revoking camping permits when necessary, evicting any un-permitted unpaid campers when space is not available (County and successful bidder will negotiate methods for accounting for and transfer of funds), calling police in case of trouble, filing complaints against persons on behalf of County, acting as witness when required to do so and recording all license numbers of vehicles parked within the parking area. Report all abandoned vehicles.
-Enforce all signs and directives posted at the park by the Department.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid HI Guard Card
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including park visitors, employees, and law enforcement officials.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of security protocols and procedures, as well as relevant state and federal laws.
- Physical fitness and ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods, and to lift heavy objects if necessary.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass a background check
Working Conditions:
The Security Guard will primarily work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The position may require working in remote or isolated areas of the park, and may involve walking or driving over rough terrain. The guard may also encounter wildlife and potentially hazardous materials, and must be able to respond to emergencies at any time.
