- The starting salary may be at a rate between the minimum to maximum salary range listed above, based on qualifications.This position is located in the Supreme Court, under the supervision of the Chief Justice and Court Staff Attorney. The position is responsible for applying specialized legal knowledge in processing various aspects of the supreme court’s work, including original petitions, application to submit certified and reserved questions, election contest complaints, proposed rules, proposed rule amendments, motions, attorney and judicial discipline recommendations, and such other matters, including correspondence, as the Chief Justice assigns. When asked, advises the court and individual justices about any issue raised by the court or individual justice.The subject position is responsible for independently performing highly specialized legal duties and for providing legal advice and counsel to the Chief Justice and Supreme Court Justices on matters that affect the State of Hawaii’s legal and judicial system and community, the general public, and Judiciary court operations.Education Requirement : Graduation from an accredited school of law.Selective Certification Requirement : At least two (2) years of experience in legal research, writing or appearing in appellate or trial court cases or appearing in appeals in administrative agencies; ORAt least one (1) year of experience as a law clerk or staff attorney in federal or state appellate courts or in federal or state appellate administrative agencies.The experience set out herein must include actual legal research and the writing of briefs or legal research memoranda.Upon request, for purposes of assessing the quantity and quality of the experience in either alternative (A) or (B), the applicant will be required to provide a list of appeals or other court or administrative cases (with case names and numbers) in which the attorney appeared as counsel or which the attorney prepared legal research memoranda or briefs. A writing sample will be required upon request.License Requirement : Applicants must possess a valid license to practice law in all courts of the State of Hawai`i.
