Summary of Duties
Supervises a unit of lower level Driver Education Assistants; plans, directs and coordinates the work of subordinates; reviews and approves work of subordinates; develops, revises, and implements operational procedures; provides clarification to subordinates, the general public, and other agencies on traffic laws and penalties, policies and procedures relating to traffic court proceedings and the Driver Education Program.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education Requirement : Graduation from high school.
Excess experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skills may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
General Experience Requirement : Four (4) years of progressively responsible interviewing / inquiry-related or information gathering experience which demonstrated that the applicant possesses the ability to deal courteously and effectively with people; exercise tact, ingenuity and resourcefulness in the collection of facts and information.
Specialized Experience Requirement : Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in a program relating to driver education, safety, training or licensing, demonstrating the knowledge of basic interviewing techniques, traffic court practices and procedures; traffic court terminology; forms and documents related to traffic court actions; traffic laws and related penalties; safe driving practices and human factors relating to poor driving; basic report writing.
- Supervisory Aptitude : Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in a similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
Applicants for the Driver Education Assistant III level must have at least one year of experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the Driver Education Assistant II .
Allowable Substitutions of Education for General Experience :
1. Successful completion of a one-year clerical or business curriculum from a business or technical school, community college or other comparable institution above the high school level may be substituted for one (1) year of General Experience.
2. Successful completion of a two-year clerical or business curriculum from a business or technical school, community college or other comparable institution above the high school level may be substituted for two (2) years of General Experience.
3. Study at an accredited college or university in a baccalaureate degree program may be substituted on the basis of one (1) academic year of study for one (1) year of General Experience up to a maximum of four (4) years.
