Summary:

The function of this administrative unit is to manage the daily operations of both the Critical Access Hospital and SNF by developing and implementing short and long-term strategic planning to carry out the regional objectives of caring for the sick and injured, promoting ongoing educational training and knowledge for staff, promoting community health, by representing the hospital in the community.

The Director of Nursing is a Registered Professional Nurse who is responsible for Nursing leadership, planning, human resources management, quality of health care, the allocation of financial, physical, and human resources, compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements, promotion of the hospital, emergency planning and ongoing management of the Hospital clinical operations within Hale Ho'ola Hamakua. Nursing Services include all nursing functions and nursing personnel. In addition to assisting the Hospital Administrator on a daily basis, this position assumes the administrative functions during his/her absence.

Job Duties:

• Defines the overall philosophy and objectives of the Hospital/SNF/C.A.H. Clinical services and interprets the same to the staff.
• Provides leadership and direction of Hospital clinical operations to ensure compliance with established objectives, Standards of Nursing Practice, and goals for quality care functions to remain in compliance with Medicare/Medicaid requirements.
• Exercises sound judgment and discretion in developing, interpreting, and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
• Direct operations of assigned areas of the organization, ensuring the provision of providing high quality patient care in the most cost-effective manner.
• Establishes and maintains clinical and administrative records and reports as required.
• Conducts regular conferences with nurse managers to ensure program planning and ongoing communication.
• Investigates irregularities and policy violations and takes corrective action.
• Reviews incident reports and directs appropriate action.
• Establishes and monitors an effective patient acuity system, reviews patient census and acuity reports on a regular basis.
• Reviews surveillance activities relating to Infection Control.
• Participates in facility-wide quality assurance performance improvement program and directs nursing department activities relative to quality control, risk management, in service/continuing education needs, infection control and employee health.
• Investigates and reports major grievances and patient/family complaints and follows disciplinary guidelines.
• Balances multiple priorities simultaneously assuring timely and accurate completion while maintaining quality standards. Is viewed as a resource in the facility when dealing with issues of systems and resources and accomplishing tasks in the most efficient and effective way.
• Establishes standards for the evaluation of personnel performance.
• Chairs the interview and selection panel to hire new nursing personnel.
• Reviews and monitors work schedules, work hours, and duty assignments of Nursing Services effects changes as needed.
• Analyzes and evaluates nursing and related services to improve the quality of patient care and plan for better utilization of staff time. Collects data and analyzes data to determine staffing patterns and overall Nursing Services staffing plans. Reviews work schedules, assignments, patient classifications, Nurse Managers reports daily to assess the appropriate number and level of personnel needed to provide quality care.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

• Education: Graduation with a Master’s degree in Nursing, Hospital Administration or Public Health from an accredited college or university preferred. Evidence of continuing education should be demonstrated including course work in nursing.
• Experience: Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of nursing experience with sufficient previous nursing administration experience in a hospital/Skilled Nursing Facility environment. Familiarity with all types of patient care equipment and products should be demonstrated.
• Certification: Certification in Advanced Nursing Administration is highly desirable.
• Licensure: Possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Salary : $140,000 - $155,000
