About Us
Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH) is part of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region. We are seeking a highly clinically skilled and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our team.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership alongside the Director, ensuring treatment is evidence-based and outcome-driven. They will be responsible for completing initial risk assessments, conducting risk management, and ongoing treatments, including crisis intervention for HHSC Kaua'i Region patients.
Main Responsibilities
- Evaluate medical and psychosocial conditions, developing and implementing treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications
- Monitor and evaluate treatment results, assessing patient progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Develop and maintain interdisciplinary treatment plans, consulting with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare providers
- Ensure quality and safe service for patients and staff, enforcing policies, procedures, and regulations
- Provide training and discussions on psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree and completion of a psychiatric residency program
- Current license to practice medicine in the State of Hawai'i and approval for Active Staff membership and clinical privileges
- Current registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and a current State Controlled Substance license
- Current, valid board certification in Psychiatry and certifications issued by the American Heart Association for Healthcare Workers in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria
- Familiarity with crisis assessment tools and techniques
- Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and ability to stand for long periods of time
