Description

Job Summary :

Perform a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks performed by a journeyman licensed electrician for Aquaculture Research and University facilities. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) electrical projects installations and repairs, weekly preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspections, repair and maintain electrical circuits, motor controllers, water pumps, lighting and heating systems, estimate and procure electrical and mechanical materials, and assist with on-call emergency repair service for these systems. Ensure all work performed is in accordance with established methods and procedures of the trade.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid and current Hawaii Journeyman Maintenance Electrician license.
  • Three (3) years commercial or industrial electrical experience.
  • Knowledge of the current NEC regulations and ability to navigate the guidelines.
  • Experience operating testing electrical equipment (i.e., volt, amp, and megger electrical meters).
  • Understanding of supply power distribution service, wire, and conduit sizing.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical motors, water pumps, motor starters, relays, controllers, and power supply lines.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical safety rules, regulations, and compliance policies.
  • Experience with power generations systems to 208V to 480V, 3-phase.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Excel, and Word programs.
  • Professional interpersonal, communication, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks properly and in a timely manner.
  • Safety conscious work ethics for the protection of self and others in the work area.
  • A positive attitude to achieve goals and deliver results individually and in a team environment.
  • Able to work M-F, 7 : 30 a.m.-4 : 30 p.m.
  • Available to work nights and weekends for facilities emergency situations.
  • Other Qualifications :

  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
  • Upon hire, the candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between HPU worksites and other locations. This includes a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
  • This position may also require driving responsibility for an HPU vehicle.
  • Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU's Vehicle Driving policy.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
  • Key Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions :

    Maintain Electrical Systems and Troubleshoot and Resolve Electrical Issues (75%)

  • Ensure all electrical and mechanical systems are operational for the aquaculture research programs and university facilities.
  • Ensure all electrical work performed is of good workmanship and compliant with current NEC and local codes.
  • Assist with the implementation and execution of a calendar based preventative maintenance program.
  • Keep accurate records of system installations, preventative maintenance programs, inventory of supplies and emergency parts, and work scheduling relative to work.
  • Maintain compliance with PPE and safety regulations per OSHA and University standards.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and safe manner. Report all safety and operational concerns to your supervisor.
  • Estimate and Procure Materials (15%)

  • Estimate cost of materials and labor needed to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Procure and allocate resources (parts, supplies, equipment, and tools) as required to support planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

  • Travel to other HPU locations to perform electrical work as requested by the Senior Building Engineer / Construction Manager or Director of Facilities.
  • Maintain professional licensing and continuing education requirements.
  • Complete Human Resource and EEO training classes when scheduled.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
