ABOUT THE POSITION
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy (HPA) is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Campus Security Officer to join our team. This position is expected to last between 2-4 months and is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of life and property across HPA campuses. The role includes duties such as conducting patrols, inspecting fire prevention systems, and serving as a first responder during emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safety and Security:
- Perform observations and report life safety issues immediately.
- Respond to calls and manage access control at Upper Campus' Kohala and Waimea gates.
- Control access on Village Campus' main driveway during academic hours.
- Approach and identify unrecognized individuals on HPA property.
- Facilitate communication between guests and appropriate department contacts.
- Investigate and document untagged vehicles on campus.
- Provide security and parking assistance during events and sports activities.
- Follow daily opening and closing procedures for campus facilities.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Use tools such as Gmail, Google Drive, CrisisGo, radios, and smartphones for communication.
- Promptly review, document, and respond to information received.
- Comply with HPA's privacy policies when handling sensitive information.
- Emergency Response:
- Call 911 in emergencies involving threats to persons or property.
- Report crimes and critical incidents to relevant authorities.
- Adapt quickly and effectively to changing circumstances.
- Implement emergency procedures, such as Fire Watch.
- Comply with HPA's Incident Command System during crises.
- Loss Prevention:
- Conduct regular patrols to secure HPA property.
- Report open or unsecured facilities.
- Document unattended high-value items.
- Observe and report any incidents to appropriate authorities.
- Safety Inspections:
- Record daily readings of fire suppression systems and kitchen equipment.
- Perform monthly inspections for safety hazards, AEDs, and fire extinguishers.
- Assist with fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills.
- Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid DCCA GDE license in good standing.
- Valid Hawai'i driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
- Adult and Child CPR/AED/First Aid certification (training can be provided).
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, run, and traverse uneven surfaces.
- Lift, move, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Perform effectively in inclement weather conditions.
- Proficient use of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, generators, and bullhorns.
WORK CONDITIONS
- Flexible working hours, including days, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind).
- Traverse irregular, sloping, steep, or slippery surfaces.
