About The Position
HPA is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Services Department on an on-call basis. This role is responsible for providing high-quality healthcare to students, employees, and visitors while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. The RN will rotate on-call with other health team members and actively contribute to the health and well-being of our campus community.

The RN will rotate on-call with other health team members and actively contribute to the health and well-being of our campus community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care and medical advice to students, employees, and visitors.
- Rotate on-call nursing coverage for both campuses.
- Availability for weekday or weekend shifts. Cover RN sick calls.
- Available for overnight and/or weekend on-call shifts.
- Support care and treatment of students in quarantine or isolation due to illnesses.
- Ensure student immunizations, TB tests, and health forms are up to date.
- Manage the student medication program.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers to prevent and treat sports-related injuries.
- Collaborate with dorm faculty when boarding students are ill.
- Transport students to medical, dental, and mental health appointments as needed.
- Perform drug, nicotine, and TB testing for employees and students.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records using an EMR system.
- Administer medications and vaccines as prescribed.
- Stock supplies, prepare first aid kits, and order necessary medications.
- Assist with coverage during summer school and school breaks.
- Infirmary and dormitory settings, with occasional work in athletic areas/outdoors.
- Walking on uneven terrain across campus during the day and night.
- Transporting students to appointments in Hilo, Kona, and Waimea.
Maintain overall good health and fitness to provide physical support when needed.
Ability to walk steep and uneven terrain and drive HPA vehicles, including golf carts.,
Qualifications
- Current RN license to practice in Hawaiʻi.
- Valid State of Hawaiʻi driver's license.
- Current Adult First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Basic computer skills (Google software, EMR systems)
- Strong nursing assessment, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergencies.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) (preferred)
- BLS, AED, and advanced CPR certifications (adult, child, and infant).
- Experience with pediatric patients (preferred)
